Help complete the Atlas

The Atlas is open source, and the most useful contribution is a sourced number that fills a gap. You don't need to write code: most figures are one row in a CSV file, with the page it came from and the sentence that contains it.

This page is generated from the data, so it shrinks as gaps are filled.

Most wanted

  1. 1

Market capitalisation for the largest companies

No company has a market-cap series yet, so the 'Largest' comparison uses revenue and the bubble chart can't size by value. Year-end market caps from filings or exchange data would fix both.

  2. 2

CRM shares for HubSpot and Zoho, and Gartner's 2019–2020 figures

The CRM chart has Gartner shares to 2018 and IDC's top five for 2021–2025. HubSpot and Zoho aren't named in either, and Salesforce is missing for 2019–2020.

  3. 3

Operating systems, security and ERP vendor shares for more years

Each has one or two years, which is not enough for a trend, so they are left out of the share chart for now.

  4. 4

Revenue for companies that report outside US dollars

SAP, Nokia, RELX and Wolters Kluwer report in euros or pounds, so they have no series yet. Annual revenue from their annual reports, in the reporting currency, plus a decision on how to convert. Alibaba ships as estimated from its 20-F dollar translations; Nebius needs its post-2024 figures separated from Yandex's history.

  5. 5

Revenue before 2009 for the companies that defined earlier eras

SEC structured data starts in 2009, so Lotus, Netscape, PeopleSoft, Siebel, BEA, Sun, Sybase, Digital Equipment, Compaq, WordPerfect and Borland have no revenue line. Their annual reports on EDGAR (1993 onwards) or company histories have the figures.

  6. 6

A size for the AI glasses market

The emerging radar now includes AI glasses, backed by unit sales (7 million+ in 2025). A sourced revenue figure for the category would let it enter the market-size charts.

  7. 7

    Video streaming revenue

Only music streaming figures were found (IFPI). Worldwide subscription video revenue from Ampere, MPA or company filings would size the market properly.

  8. 8

    Market sizes before 2004

No market below the whole industry is sized before 2004. ERP and database sizes from the 1990s (AMR Research, Dataquest, IDC) are the most valuable.

  9. 9

Two OECD PDFs that need a human to read them

The 1995 and 2001 worldwide software figures come from OECD Information Technology Outlook PDFs whose text couldn't be extracted automatically. Confirming the quotes upgrades them from estimated to reported.

Markets without a size series46

These markets show only a rough size range. Three or four sourced years each (ideally one publisher, e.g. Gartner or IDC press releases) turn a range into a line. Largest markets first.

The whole industry

The industry chart has figures for 43 year-definition pairs between 1970 and 2026, from several publishers with different definitions. A single worldwide series from one publisher, or more years for any existing one, makes the lines comparable. See the chart.
